The Button Poetry / Exploding Pinecone Press 2017 Chapbook Contest

This chapbook contest from Button Poetry ends in just a few days, so gather that rowdy family of poems, tie ’em together with a little bow, and send them to Button Poetry & Exploding Pinecone Press. Winner receives publication, $500, and a trip to Minneapolis to perform for Button’s video series.  Submit here.

Dartmouth Poet In Residence at Frost Place

For a month and half this summer, you’ll live and sleep in Robert Frost’s “very rustic” farmhouse in Vermont. They’re looking for a poet with a collection already out, and who is “at an artistic and personal crossroads.” Also, $2000 worth of grants. Submit here.

NEA Grant for Translation Projects

Translators! This one’s for you. Get your $12,500 or $25,000 grant (while you can) for a book-length translation project. Getting a government grant is a little extra bureaucracy, so make sure you start the process early.  Submit here.

Andrés Montoya Poetry Prize

This prize is specifically for the debut collection of a Latinx poet. Winner will recieve $1000 and publication by the University of Notre Dame Press. The judge this year is Ada Limón. Submit here.

Anomaly’s Egyptian Writers Folio

Egyptian poets: this is a good opportunity to share your voice alongside other talented Egyptians. Send them up to five poems, and support this great effort to increase visibility for new voices.  Submit by emailing hfahmy [at] wesleyan.edu.

Vassar Review

From their call for the Flesh & Form issue: “Inviting embodiment as a medium, “Flesh & Form” engages failure and curiosity for new avenues of possibility at the edge of being.” Send 6 poems, and keep in mind that they are particularly looking for content that queers the body. Submit here.

For debut poets, this contest will award $3000 and publication with the respected Red Hen Press, judged by Richard Blanco. Poets also get a 4 week solitude-residency at PLAYA. Open to everyone, and the contest has been going for almost two decades. Submit here.

Award for College Writers

The only award for black college writers alone, the Hurston/Wright Award offers cash prize and an invitation to a reading in D.C. If you’re black and currently enrolled in undergrad or graduate school, low-residency MFAs included, this is an excellent opportunity to be seen.
