PEN Center Emerging Voices Fellowships for 2018
Pen is looking to support writers who are struggling to find the usual track. If you “do not have significant publication credits, are not enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate writing program, and do not hold an undergraduate or graduate writing degree,” then you are eligible for a 7 month mentorship and fellowship through Pen. Send them 10 pages of your very best poetry. Submit here.

2017 1/2 K Prize by Indiana Review
Donika Kelly, author of the beautiful Beastiary, is judging this year’s contest for Indiana Review. The prize will be $1000 and publication in the journal. Send them 3 poems, less than 500 words each. You can also read their interview with Kelly for tips on what she’s looking for. Submit here.

Crooked Teeth
Crooked Teeth is a brand new DIY lit mag out of San Francisco. They are the real deal, on the ground, community of writers and artists. Looking for poetry that is urban in language and theme, send them your submission in the body of an email. Nearly anything goes. Submit here.

The Penn Review
One of the oldest literary mags around, the University of Pennsylvania’s journal has been going since 1966. Looking for poetry with “power and precision,” they’re asking for up to 5 poems in a single submission. The best part is that they aim for a 1-2 day response rate on all submissions. Submit here.

Dead Lake Chapbook Competition
Ari Banias will judge this year’s contest for Salt Hill Journal. This is their 4th time around, so make sure to check out what they’ve published before to get a good sense if your poetry is a fit. As a winner, you’ll receive publication and 25 copies of your little book. Send them 20-30 pages, and make sure your name isn’t anywhere on it! Submit here.

St. Lawrence Book Award
Seeking a debut collection of poems, Black Lawrence Press is taking submissions for their annual St. Lawrence Award. Send them 45-95 pages & get a chance to win $1000 and publication. This award has been around for over 10 years now, and they’ve found some great authors, including Vedran Husic and Brad Ricca. Submit here.

Beloit Poetry Journal
One of those small journals that shows up quite often in The Best American Poetry anthology, BPJ consistently finds some of the best work seeking a home. Send them up to 5 poems, or a sing long poem. Submit here.

Knightville Poetry Contest

Black Water Review 2017 Contest
Submit up to three poems for a chance to win $1000 and publication. This year’s judge will be Rachel McKibbens, author of Pink Elephant, Into the Dark & Emptying Field, and the wonderfully titled, blud.
